The couple started dating in 2016, and after dating for three months called it quits. Many were surprised by this breakup, as they had seemed to be moving quickly. Swift was even pictured visiting Hiddleston's family in Suffolk, England at the end of June in 2016.

At the time of their breakup, a source exclusively told Us Weekly, “[Taylor] was the one to put the brakes on the relationship. Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with.”

There are three alleged songs about Tom Hiddleston, namely: Getaway Car (most popularly known to be about Hiddleston), Champane Problems, Cowboy Like Me, and Midnight Rain. Before getting into why these songs are likely about Swift's relationship with Hiddleston, let's look at a timeline of their relationship.

Their Relationship Timeline

On May 1, 2016, Hiddleston and Swift first officially met at the pre-met gala dinner. There were no photos of the party itself, as no cameras were allowed, but there is a picture of Swift exiting right after Hiddleston.

The day later, on May 2nd, Hiddleston and Swift were seen dancing together at the Met Gala. This sparked numerous rumors, especially with Swift still dating Calvin Harris.

On July 3, Taylor Swift had her annual Independence Day party at her mansion in Rhode Island. Those who attended were her well-known friends such as Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Cara Delevinge, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, and her boyfriend, Hiddleston. Think "The Last Great American Dynasty," from folklore. Tom Hiddleston even wore an "I ❤️ T.S." tank top as they splashed around in the ocean, which he said was an inside joke with friends.

After the huge party, the couple were spotted in the airport at Australia on July 8.

On July 10, they were spotted eating dinner together at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast.

On July 14, an anonymous source told Us that Hiddleston was planning to propose to Taylor Swift, whom he had been dating for two months. "She would definitely say yes," the insider had said.

The couple was spotted blissfully having a dinner date in Santa Monica on July 27.

The pair broke up in September of 2016, after three months of dating. “Taylor is an amazing woman. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time,” Hiddleston told GQ in February of 2017.

Now let's talk about what inevitably comes after breaking up with Taylor Swift: She writes a song about it. In 2017, she released Reputation. One song in particiular stands out as being about Tom Hiddleston: "Getaway Car."

The song talks about Swift dating Hiddleston as a means of leaving Calvin Harris: "I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason." She even describes the night of meeting Hiddleston as "the ties were black, the lies were white" which could be referring to the Met Gala. But she continues to say "In a getaway car... they never get far... nothing good starts in a getaway car." This could be directly talking about their shortlived relationship.

Swift adds that they were "jet-set" which could be referring to all of their travelling that they did in the three months of dating. She adds in the same verse that "I left you in a motel bar," which again could be referring to their travels.

Additionally, fans say that "Champagne Problems" from evermore could be about their relationship, and specifically Swift turning down his alleged proposal. We know that the two met dancing at the Met Gala, which could be why she chooses to say "I dropped your hand while dancing, left you out there standing." She adds "Your mom's ring in your pocket, my picture in your wallet; Your heart was glass, I dropped it." Which is obviously talking about saying no to a proposal.

The second verse in "Champagne Problems" says

"You told your family for a

reason

You couldn't keep it in

Your sister splashed out on

the bottle

Now no one's celebrating."

Swift was introduced to Hiddleston's family after just two weeks of dating, and he also has two sisters whose names are Sarah and Emma Hiddleston.

"I never was ready so I watch you go," she sings, which is a popular belief as to why the relationship ended.

The song ends with a slightly more uplifting note, with Swift singing:

"But you'll find the real thing

instead

She'll patch up your tapestry

that I shred

And hold your hand while

dancing

Never leave you standing

...

Her picture in your wallet

You won't remember all my

Champagne problems."

She has hope that the man that proposed (Hiddleston?) will find someone who he deserves, and who isn't full of problems.

Another song that may be about Hiddleston is "Cowboy Like Me," also on evermore. It's a song about love going wrong, but they're both "cowboys," or people used to being in the public light. So it was inevitable that their relationship would be ruined.

One of her first lines says "And you asked me to dance but I said, 'Dancin' is a dangerous game." Which again could be talking about their shared dance at the Met Gala. She goes on to say "Takes one to know one, you're a cowboy like me. Never wanted love just a fancy car." The car could be referring to "Getaway Car," and again she's saying that they're similar in the way that they're both famous and well-known, or cowboys.

She also says, "the old men that I've swindled really did believe I was the one." When they dated, Swift was 27 and Hiddleston was 35. Therefore some could argue that comparatively he was old.

What might just be her most popular line in the song is "Forever is the sweetest con," which again could show that he wanted to be with her forever and actually did propose.

Most recently, she came out with "Midnight Rain," which listeners immediately attributed to Tom Hiddleston. The most repeated line is "He was sunshine, I was Midnight Rain," which could be talking about Hiddleston's generally lighthearted demeanor and Swift's possibly more pessimistic look on life. Or, dare we say, her "champagne problems"?

She introduces her lover as: "My boy was a montage

A slow-motion, love potion

Jumping off things in the

ocean.

I broke his heart 'cause he was

nice."

The two were often spotted at the beach, even one time pictured jumping around in the ocean on Swift's Independence Day party. Additionally, the general opinion of Hiddleston is that he is a gentlemen which is often used interchangeably with nice.

She goes on to say:

"He wanted a bride

I was making my own name

Chasing that fame."

This lyric can be connected to the line in "Champange Problems" that says "She would've made such a lovely bride." Even if Hiddleston didn't propose, there were enough rumors for Swift to add the idea to her songs. She said no to his proposal because she was too busy chasing her own name.
